WHO IS THIS FOR?
This course is for those who need to carry out inspections of Fire Doors as part of their daily duties, including but not limited to: Building Control Officers, Safety Inspectors, Insurers, Fire Risk Assessors, Fire Professionals, Facilities Managers, Building Wardens and Caretakers.

COURSE SUMMARY
MODULE OUTLINES
There are 5 modules that make up this course.
MODULE 1
The course starts with an overview of fire, an introduction to fire rated door sets including their function and purpose, and the importance of inspection.
MODULE 2
Looks briefly at the regulations, specifically the Building Regulations and Approved Document B, the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order – picking up on the specific items relating to fire resisting door sets.
MODULE 3
Covers testing of fire doors and evidence of performance including assessments. Also covered is third party certification of door systems and door marking/labelling.
MODULE 4
Concentrates on all aspects of the fire rated timber door sets, including the door leaf, the frame and supporting construction, the gap (and how it’s filled) behind the frame. A detailed look at the building hardware, intumescent and smoke seals. Glazing in doors including side panels and over panels follows.
MODULE 5
An overview of metal fire resisting door sets, fire resisting roller shutters and how they differ from timber fire resisting door sets. Additional inspection checks specific to non-timber fire resisting door sets are discussed in this module.
PREVIOUS REQUIREMENTS
None. You do not require any previous qualifications or experience relating to Fire Doors in order to take this course. Students of all ages and academic background can enrol on this course.
CPD ACCREDITED
CPD hours for this course have been validated by the Institute of Fire Engineers. All learners completing the course will be issued with an attendance certificate which will record 5.5 CPD hours.
SUPPLEMENTARY INFORMATION
Assessment
There will be a 1-hour multi-choice open book exam to complete at the end of the course. This will be solely based upon the content delivered throughout the day.
Course Materials
You will not be expected to bring any tools, or written material to the training venue. All stationery and course material will be provided by your tutor.
Tutor Support
Help and support from your tutor will be available throughout the day to answer questions on the course subject, along with any follow-up questions.
Food & Refreshments
Hot beverages (coffee and tea) and snacks will be available during the day and a light lunch will also be provided for all course delegates.
TUTOR PROFILE
Richard Colwell, BSc (Hons)
Richard joined IFC Group in 2021 and is currently Associate
Director of Training which involves the development and delivery of engaging
fire training packages. Future courses will utilise new technologies which will
elevate the learning experience to the next level, in a safe environment.
Prior to working at IFC, Richard worked as a Product Manager
(Fire) at BRE Academy and was responsible for the creation and delivery of fire
courses. He has also worked as a Certification Manager and Commercial Director
for BASEC and was Business Group Manager (Assessment Services) for BRE Global
Ltd.
Richard has significant technical experience in large and small scale fire testing, building envelopes and cable testing, Product Approvals, business development and training in both UK and international markets. This broad mix of experience and technical understanding, perfectly equip him for his role at IFC.
